Dr Samantha Velluti, Reader in EU Law
Samantha Velluti’s areas of research are in EU governance, law and constitutionalism (with a particular focus on creating hybridity models of EU governance), EU social and employment law and policy (with a particular focus on gender equality, gender mainstreaming and anti-discrimination), EU asylum and immigration law and policy (with a focus on fundamental rights) and, more recently, EU Common Commercial Policy and social and human rights conditionality. She has written in international journals and her publications also include books in the field of New Governance and EU constitutionalism, EU gender equality and the Open Method of Coordination and EU migration and gender. Her latest publication is a book entitled ‘Reforming the Common European Asylum System – Legislative Developments and Judicial Activism of the European Courts’ (Springer: 2013).
Diane Ryland, Senior Lecturer in Law
Diane Ryland’s areas of research are in EU procedural law and in EU animal welfare law and policy. Her current research focuses on the significance of the new constitutional animal welfare provision in the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU; on the increasing importance of animal welfare within the EU Common Agricultural Policy; and on the potential for the multifunctional role of agriculture to reinforce higher animal welfare standards. The relationship between public (EU) and private institutions in the policy area of animal welfare is integral to her research.
